You don’t want to shell out more money, and we don’t want you too either. That being said, PartsEngine.ca would like to present to you a seven step installation guide to easily answer the question, “How do I install my brand new tonneau cover?”

7 Easy Steps to Installing your Tonneau Cover

  • Step 1. First thing is first. You need to select the right tonneau cover to meet your needs. Hopefully the information we provided above will have helped to make that decision.
  • Step 2. Attach the rails that came with your pickup truck cover to your bed. If using an over-the-bed rail liner, you may have to cut notches in it for the tonneau’s clamps to poke through. Do so with caution in order to prevent damage to your vehicle.
  • Step 3. Align the tonneau cover’s rails and tighten all mounting hardware until it loosely holds the rails in place. This will allow you to re-check the alignment to make sure it is correct. If it looks like it is properly aligned, go ahead and fully tighten the mounting hardware.
  • Step 4. Install any tailgate or cab-side seals if they were included with your cover.
  • Step 5. Lay out the cover on the tonneau rails and check that the tonneau sits evenly along the perimeter. If it doesn’t, re-check your rail alignment and adjust as necessary.
  • Step 6. Inspect all sealing surfaces for visible gaps or bulging. Again, if the tonneau isn’t sitting flush on the gasket without excessively compressing it, make the necessary adjustments to the rail’s position.
  • Step 7. If your tonneau cover came with drainage tubes, connect them and route them to the corners of the bed to prevent liquid pooling.
